Condoleezza Rice is associate professor of political science at Stanford University. She served with the U.S. National Security Council from 1989 to 1991 as special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for Soviet affairs. She is the author of Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984), and coauthor of The Gorbachev Era (with Alexander Dallin, 1986).
